Guide and worked example

Prepare an existing image to meet a destination system’s stated dimensions, format and byte limits. Passing these checks does not guarantee acceptance by a registration or identity-verification service.

  1. Read the destination requirements: dimensions, format, minimum and maximum size, and units. Do not assume the defaults are its requirements.
  2. Choose an image and enter requirements. Crop to fill may remove edges; Keep whole image adds padding. Choose according to the destination rules.
  3. Adjust alignment, rotation and fill color, then generate and inspect original and output.
  4. Check exact bytes and every check result. Inspect text, faces and edges before downloading and submitting.

Worked example

For an example requirement of 300×400 pixels, JPEG and at most 200 KiB, enter width 300, height 400, JPEG, KiB, minimum 0 and maximum 200. Choose composition and generate. Expect a 300×400 JPEG no larger than 204800 bytes. If a check fails, adjust as advised instead of renaming the extension. These are demonstration values, not an official institution’s standard.

Limitations and checks

PNG cannot be reduced with a quality parameter. JPEG/WebP may also fail a very small byte limit at required dimensions. Upscaling adds no genuine detail. Fill color does not replace an existing background; automatic background removal is not provided.

Should I choose KB or KiB?

KB means 1000 bytes and KiB means 1024. If unspecified, leave a margin and verify with the destination system.

Why is output below the minimum size?

Simple images can encode very compactly. Verify the minimum, try PNG or a more detailed original. The tool does not pad files with meaningless bytes.

Why can the destination reject a passing image?

The destination may also check background, pose, content, clarity or filenames. These are outside dimension, format and byte-size checks.
